Bed Bugs!?! Ewwww!

Motel professionals such as Cleaning Supervisors (who deal with hundreds of travelers from all over the world) and University Housing Managers (who oversee thousands of college age students) don't let bed bugs get started in their establishments. What do they know that you don't know? Nothing, if you read the information on this page.

Never Underestimate the Opposing Force

Bed bugs are hardy and determined: designed to be uncrushable and unfathomable. And they have to be dealt with in a ruthless manner.”

Bed bugs are hardy and determined, but they CAN be killed, even though their resilience and 7-stage life-cycle makes it more difficult than most people want to believe. Additionally, the fact that bedbugs don't spend most of their time on their victim makes the problem of wiping them out even harder.

Check Life Cycle of the Bedbug

They can live in your environment over a year without feeding and need to take a blood meal for each of the seven life stages. If you leave one to breed on, they will re-populate year after year like a cruel sequel to a horror movie.

One mature bedbug can produce over a trillion decendents in her 9-month adult stage life span. This army is able to "raise the dead" to replace any mortalities you might inflict and continue to fight year after year.

Split Your Troops and Fight on All Fronts.

“New pest treatments have added to the arsenal of weapons available for fighting bedbugs, but the battle must still be fought on 3 fronts in both the Present and the Future: Beds, House and Clothing: Now and Tomorrow.”

Most of the bedbugs are living and breeding on the mattress. Treating the beds is essential for your own comfort as well as to keep them from spreading throughout your environment.

You simply cannot allow a single bedbug to survive in your or your family's, environment if you want to live a life free of allergies, disease, and irritation.

The bed is the most arduous task, but you MUST treat the area around the bed with just as much determination as you treat the bed itself and the bedroom.

If you neglect ONE place in your bedroom, guestroom, garage, summerhouse, winter house or chateau on the Riviera, bedbugs will ultimately come back to occupy all of these locations and more.

Arm Yourself Well

“Most people want to know how to solve the immediate crisis first. Start with bedbugs ON your beds. But don't stop there.”

You will need only three products to stop bedbugs in their tracks AND keep them from coming back.

  • Steri-Fab, to clean, kill and disinfect the beds.
  • Bedlam, to kill the bugs, but more importantly, to be sure that no new premature stages advance into biting adults.
  • Mattress covers, to trap IN any last bedbugs that might have been missed, and to lock OUT any new bugs from getting a start in YOUR bed.

Bedbug BED Control

The best start is simple and cheap:
Strip the bed and put the bedding in the laundry, adding a cup of Steri-Fab to the soapy wash water. Let it sit 15 minutes and then resume washing. That will take care of the problem on the bedding.

Most of the bedbugs are living and breeding on the mattress. Treating the whole bed is essential for your own comfort as well as to keep them from spreading throughout your environment.

Vacuum the mattress and box springs thoroughly. The bugs harbor in the tufts, seams and crevices. Open these up as much as possible and get every speck that you can find. Spray a bit of Bedlam down the vacuum cleaner tube, turn it off and let it sit for several minutes before disposing of the bag itself. Put the vacuum cleaner bag out of the house in a plastic trash bag and close it tightly.

Now, go back to the beds and spray the Steri-Fab on all seams and crevices until they are damp.

Once the Steri-Fab is dry, spray the entire mattress with Bedlam, concentrating on the crevices and seams. Bedlam kills the current critters, but more importantly, stops any new baby bugs from developing into biting adults for months at a time.

There is one more step and it is most important.

Enclose the box springs and the mattress in separate mattress covers. These covers are specially designed to lock bugs on one side or the other. If there are any bugs left on the mattress, they will be locked in and will ultimately die of starvation and old age. If new bedbugs are brought to the bed, they will have no place to hide or harbor. Either way, you and your bed will be safe from bedbugs in the future.

Now that the bed is taken care of, begin the search & destroy missions.

Bedbugs can enter the house by any carrier available: luggage, clothing and humans. Inviting them right into the bedroom where they remain unseen and happily reproducing without your ever knowing until the problem is advanced. Treat your entire square footage indoors including garages.
